National Day of Prayer 2012

Today is the National Day of Prayer 2012 and I think it’s safe to say that if ever there was a time to pray, it is now.  This year’s theme is “One Nation Under God” based on Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose god is the Lord.”

Prayer has always been used in this country for guidance, protection and strength – even before we were a nation or a handful of colonies. The Pilgrims at Plymouth relied on prayer during their first and darkest winter. Our founding fathers also called for prayer during the Constitutional Congress. In their eyes, our recently created nation and freedoms were a direct gift from God. And being a gift from God, there was only one way to insure protection – through prayer.

What is the National Day of Prayer?

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for our nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.  It exists to communicate with every individual American the need for personal repentance and prayer, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families.  The National Day of Prayer represents a Judeo Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.

Heavenly Father,

Every good gift and perfect gift comes from You. You are a faithful God and Your mercy endures forever.

You have promised to bless the nation that trusts in You.  Our currency proclaims “In God We Trust,” but in our culture we are far from You.

In the words of the prophet Daniel, “We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.”

We come before You once more, seeking Your forgiveness and mercy.  You, O God, are our only hope… Hear our prayer and, for Your honor’s sake, shine Your face upon this nation.

Give our leaders the desire to seek Your wisdom and the courage to follow Your guidance… and watch over the men and women of our armed forces as they sacrifice for the cause of freedom.

We give You thanks for all You have done for us, and we earnestly pray that You will help us become, once again, a nation whose God is the Lord.

In the name of Your Son, and our Savior, we pray this prayer.

Our faith, our families and our freedoms are being attacked and destroyed right before our very eyes and everyone seems too busy to notice. America is under attack from within and WE THE PEOPLE need to wake up and take a stand before it’s too late. We can no longer stand on the sidelines and hope that someone else will take action. We can no longer hide within the walls of our churches and pray that things will get better.

“Faith without works is dead” – James 2:14-26.

It’s time for ALL OF US to get involved… to let our voices be heard… and to restore faith, family and freedom back to the United States of America!  The mistake that I see good American families make today is that we have become content and apathetic in the false security of everyday living.  And while we’re living in that warm and comfortable environment and taking care of business at home, someone else is “giving us the business” while we aren’t looking and they are LITERALLY taking over our country.

Nation Day of Prayer 2012“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6

People with an upside down world view are bent on changing our culture into a godless, socialist utopia and they are driving our nation off of a cliff.  We can right the “Ship of State” and change course but it’s going to take every single one of us who understands the importance of faith, family and freedom coming together to make it happen.

Pray for America and pray daily!

America is undergoing a sea change of cultural values. The “city on a hill” admired by the world for so long is facing its own battles within.  “It’s not too late to stand for godly values – never too late to remember that God’s spiritual and moral transformation of us as individuals is the greatest source of transformation of our churches, our communities, our culture and ultimately our politics.

“If my people (the Church), who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14
